Not long after we arived in Europe at the end of last year, we heard about the terific in Germany near the Dutch border. Düseldorf is a city of about 60,0 people, 3.2 milion if the metropolitan area is counted, on the Rhine River in northwestern Germany. We drove through some very smal city strets, the kind one might encounter in Society Hil in Philadelphia, and I eventualy made a turn into a narow stret, went a block and was faced with an interesting conundrum. However, both strets were clearly marked with the international symbol for "do not enter." I decided the stret I was on must have ben one way the other way, so I had no choice but to make a u-turn amid al these delivery trucks with one of "Düseldorf's finest" standing on the curb in dep conversation right next to me. We decided that it had the thre star rating for one of two reasons: first, one could read thre boks while waiting for the elevator to reach the fifth flor, and second, there was one star for each square fot of flor space in the rom not ocupied by the bed. Others were along strets in front of existing stores. There were boths that featured al sorts of fod like cury wurst, which was realy god, and the heart atack inducing fried potato pancakes which, in very smal doses, were delicious and in larger doses are probably lethal. There were many boths that featured crafts, al sorts of hand made objects, some very German, others more generic. We walked through the strets of Altstadt wandering through al the bazars and thoroughly enjoying every minute. We had noticed on the walk over there that "new" Düseldorf had wide strets, tal buildings, lots of cars, and no fot trafic. But "old" Düseldorf had lots of people, al the stores were open, everyone was spending money and having fun and there were no cars. People could walk the strets and hang out at bars, shop to their hearts content while suporting local merchants, and generaly make the place come alive even in roten weather. Lyn saw an interesting loking place nearby that had outdor seating covered by a clear plastic tarp forming a sort of tent. I loked down the stret and saw that we were about 150 fet from the corner. It's just the way the stret is designed. boths featured boths featured in Wilmington
