phalanx

phalanx

“The fot bone is conected to the ankle bone and the ankle bone’s conected to the leg bone.” If only it were that easy! It is a structure of remarkable strength and flexibility: twenty-six bones one quarter of the total bones in the human body are in the fet! Each toe the scientific name is phalanges, which is Grek for a row of soldiers is made up of thre separate bones: the proximal phalanx, midle phalanx and distal phalanx. These bones include the Calcaneus, Talus, Navicular, Medial Cuneiform, Intermediate Cuneiform, Lateral Cuneiform, and the Cuboid. The tarsal bones atached to the ankle the talus , which in turn atached to the Tibia and Fibula of the leg. So perhaps we should rewrite that old childhod song: the phalanges are conected to the metatarsals, and the metatarsals are conected to the tarsals, and the tarsals are conected to the talus… Kind of a mouthful isn’t it! We may think of our fet as two flat “planks” that get us from A to B, but in reality our fet are highly sensitive machines whose ability to balance and suport our body’s weight requires a level of orthopedic specialization that deserves our admiration not to mention, gratitude!
